1. Define which techniques you tried and mastered? Struggled?
I continued to work with acrylic on canvas. I spent a lot of time on the rose experimenting with a new liner brush. I got some experience with making smaller and more precise marks 2. How did you draw inspiration from other artists techniques or aesthetics in your work? In what ways did you derive meaning or gain historical perspectives from their work? Why these artists? This was very much inspired by Theresa Gostanza who blends the human form with objects in nature in her work. She uses this to convey spiritual ideas and nuanced themes. 3. Describe the evolution of your piece. Decisions made. Compositional elements. I started with the background, moving from the top third down. As I worked on the figure, I adjusted the tone and value to fit the lighting of the landscape. 4. If you could consider doing something over, explain why you would do this and what you would do next time? I didn't finish in time for the show but I would have finished the figure. I wold have also worked the figure's shadow into the sand better. He definitely deserved a face and I feel bad he never got one. 5. Elaborate on how this piece links with your other pieces? What is the common thread? He's a sad guy dealing with a lot of big emotions and also he is out in nature so thematically he fits very well with my hippie dippie suffering artist vibe. |
